Radio Frequency
Circuit Design

Why is Radio Frequency circuit design so special?

Electronics design is a unique engineering discipline. The process of making electrons “do work”…in the way you want them too!

There are many specialties including digital, analog and power design. Among these, Radio Frequency (RF) design is a specialty all it’s own.

Like all designs an RF design begins with the end goal in mind. In addition to piece cost, project cost and project timing, factors such as operating country, data throughput, transmission distance, power consumption and power source come into play.

Fleetwood Electronics has many examples of RF product launches. Let us know how we can help you with yours!

Chip Down RF Design

The image shown here is an RF chip down design. The antenna is a PCB trace and can be seen on the bottom right edge of the PCB in the reflection.

These designs tend to have lower piece cost however require FCC certification for the specific PCBA. This requires more development time and more development cost, but pays off for medium volume applications. In most cases this is the most cost effective project option.

RF Module Design

The image shown here is an RF module design. RF modules come pre-approved for FCC and includes an antenna on the module. RF modules are more expensive and best suited for low volume applications or an interim step to reach the market before creating a more cost effective chip down design.
